An Adoptive Parent Wrties:

We are adopting a child from Ethiopia.  Our question is:  How and when do we explain racism to our child?  What words should we use?

John Raible Answers:

Check out the Anti-Bias Curriculum: Tools for Empowering Young Children (National Association for the Education of Young Children series, #242. (Paperback) ISBN 093598920X by Louise Derman-Sparks.

If your child is older and already in school, there are tons of good books for teachers and parents in the field of multicultural edication and social justice education. Start educating yourselves now, for as you know, racism WILL be an issue, regardless of where you live!
