THE BRIDGE OF ALLIANCE

 

Talk to the child regarding his feelings about missing his parents

Allow and encourage phone calls between the child and family

Refer to child as "your child"

Share and model methods of discipline that have worked in your home

Welcome child's family into your home

Refrain from saying negative things about the child's parents

Bring snacks or activities to visit

Verbally encourage reunification

Involve parents in solving problems that arise while the child is in care

Invite child's family to your family gatherings and birthday parties

Respect the confidential nature of all information

Request cultural information from family

Share copies of homework and report cards with family

Invite parents to school and medical appointments

Serve as support for family following reunification.

Attend training to learn how to work with parents
