"Answering the Call"

The NYS Citizens' Coalition for Children (NYSCCC) is happy to be a partner in the nationwide campaign to recruit adoptive and foster families. Called "Answering the Call," the campaign uses print, radio, television, and internet public service announcements (PSAs) with the themes, "You don't have to be a hero to be a hero to a child," and "You don't have to be perfect to be a perfect parent."

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families in collaboration with the The Adoption Exchange Association, The Collaboration to AdoptUsKids and the Ad Council, developed the public service advertising campaign. All prospective families who call the nationwide toll free number as a result of the ads receive AdoptUsKids informational materials and are contacted by one of the Recruitment Response Teams that are based in all 50 states.

NYSCCC is the Recruitment Response Team for Upstate New York (all of the counties outside of New York City). We are working in partnership with the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and the NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS) to implement a statewide plan to reach out to and support prospective adoptive and foster parents throughout the adoption/foster care application process. ACS is the Recruitment Response Team for the five boroughs of New York City.

Both NYSCCC and ACS respond to inquiries from prospective adoptive and foster families, assist and encourage the families, and connect them to local parent support networks. We also work together with OCFS to address systemic issues that will improve the adoption/foster care process. See links below for further information about NYS and national project activities.
